The adventure starts today. Your guide will drive you from Arusha to Lake Manyara Park. The journey takes about two hours. Make sure to keep your eyes peeled this afternoon as you go on an afternoon game drive in search of elusive tree-climber lions. Manyara National Park is home to a number of these rare and beautiful animals, so it’s possible to spot one in the middle of an afternoon nap.
And
While there has been a lot of debate about why these lions climb trees, the most commonly accepted explanation is that lions developed this skill in order to escape the constant harassment of flies. Only lucky guests will see these animals in person, however, with the afternoon sun blazing in the afternoon, any traveler can expect to spot much of the wildlife that takes refuge in the shaded areas.

Giant fig trees and mahogany trees can be seen in the underground forest just around the park gates, which feed on the underground springs that are constantly replenishing themselves from the crater highlands directly above the Manyara Basin. Then continue to your next destination.

DAY 5: MANYARA
Today, you will discover one of Tanzania’s most remarkable wildlife conservation areas, the Ngorongoro Crater. Departing in a private vehicle alongside a local expert guide, you will head into the setting for today’s adventure. The largest inactive, intact and unfilled volcanic caldera in the world, this geological wonder formed as a result of a gigantic explosion that caused the volcano to collapse on itself, creating the massive crater.
The area
About 12 miles wide and about 2,000 feet deep, the journey from the crater rim to the ground takes about 45 minutes by vehicle. The extremely fertile crater floor has attracted incredibly dense wildlife populations, and today more than 25,000 large animals inhabit the crater, including some of the last black rhinos in the world. The crater floor is also home to some of the highest concentrations of carnivores in the world, with large herds of lions, packs of hyenas, and solitary predators like cheetahs and jackals.
And
A keen eye paired with expert search patterns obtained from your guide will certainly help you spot a wide range of wildlife and perhaps some of the more elusive species like leopards, servals, and eared foxes. An experienced guide-tracker and private vehicle will accompany you today on your exploration of Ngorongoro National Park.
